Bob Bloomer, Regional Vice President Chartwells-Thompson Bob Bloomer is Regional Vice President for Chartwells-Thompson Hospitality at the Chicago Public Schools and oversees the day to day management of food services in 470 Chicago schools. Bob joined the Chicago team in 2000 when CPS awarded the food service management contract to Chartwells-Thompson.
Bob and his team work hand-in-hand with client Louise Esaian, Logistics Office of CPS Nutrition Support Services to increase the healthfulness of the school meals program. Recent accomplishments have included expansion of the salad bar program to more than 30 schools and the introduction of Morning Max, a universal breakfast at more than 200 elementary schools. Bloomer and the CPS team will build on this success by expanding this breakfast program to all CPS elementary schools. In response to CPS new nutrition guidelines, CPS Nutrition Support Services have increased the serving sizes and varieties of fruits and vegetables, expanded whole grains and have reduced sodium in the menus. In addition, transfats, whole and 2% milk and all deep fat frying have been eliminated from the school meals program.
Under Bob�s leadership, CPS had implemented a nationally recognized local procurement or farm to school program which includes fresh as well as locally grown, locally frozen fruits and vegetables. Local purchases will exceed $2million in the 2010-2011 school year.
Bob has established effective partnerships with Chicagoland and national organizations including the Healthy Schools Campaign, Community Food Security Coalition, FamilyFarmed.org, School Food FOCUS and the Regional Food Systems Advisory Council of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning. In recognition for his work in Chicago with CPS and these organizations, Bob was recently invited to speak to member of Congress in advance of the reauthorization Child Nutrition bill.
Prior to joining Chartwells-Thompson Hospitality, Bob managed food service operations in hotels, restaurants and corporate dining facilities. Bob is a board member of After School Matters, is a certified Food Service Professional and holds a degree in Hospitality Management.
