K. Bartlett Durand, Jr. is an attorney by training and 8 years of practice, having been graduated summa cum laude from the William S. Richardson School of Law (Hawaii). Bartlett developed the marketing and branding of Otter Creek Organic Farm products through a separate company, Local Choice Marketing, and is the managing member for Black Earth Meats. Black Earth Meats is the first meat processor in the region to obtain a USDA license, certified organic status, and third party "certified humane" standing. By focusing on efficiency in a small scale and local marketing, Black Earth Meats is becoming a model for other small processors to compete against the giant food industry. In 2011 Bartlett was named a "Badger Bioneer" for his lead in promoting local foods and rebuilding the regional food infrastructure.
