Nancy Jones is Executive Director of Chicago Fair Trade, a metro-wide organization that works with businesses, faith based organizations, non-profits, universities and individual activists to expand support for fair trade through education, advocacy and consumer campaigns. Fair Trade, which guarantees a living wage and environmentally sound practices, is a development strategy used to reduce global poverty. Nancy�s experience as a community organizer in Chicago combined with work experience in rural communities in El Salvador informs her approach to building global relationship based on justice and mutual respect. She holds an M.S.W. from the University of Chicago.
Chicago One Step Closer to Becoming a Fair Trade City!
A fair trade resolution was passed unanimously Feb 10th by the full council after getting support from the Finance Committee at Monday's hearing. This moves Chicago an important step closer to its goal to become a fair trade city! Goals of fair trade towns USA include:
- City Council Resolution
- Fair Trade available in local shops
- Fair Trade at work places, schools, faith communities and community organizations
- Media attention
- Formation of local fair trade steering group
