Julio Tuma is the Head Beekeeper at the Garfield Park Conservatory. Early experiences with beekeeping and with pollination services at his parents farm engendered a lifelong fascination with all things bees and beekeeping. At the Conservatory, Julio gives regular beekeeping classes and helps to coordinate the activity of a dedicated core of volunteers (25 and growing) who get together to keep bees (over 30 hives this coming season), to learn about beekeeping and to pass on this knowledge to the general public. Come by the Conservatory on Tuesday and Saturday mornings during the Summer and you can see the Conservatory's band of beekeepers giving demonstrations and inspecting hives. Julio is also pursuing his Ph.D. in the Philosophy of Science at the University of Chicago.
